Say "No" to Manitoba Hydro's 7.9% Rate Increase

Background:

Manitoba Hydro is a Crown monopoly that belongs to and serves all Manitobans.

Manitoba Hydro applied to the Public Utilities Board for an across-the-board 7.9% rate increase for April 1, 2018.

Manitoba Hydro proposed the 7.9% rate increase without meaningfully seeking input from ratepayers.

If the 7.9% rate increase is granted, it will impose hardship on residential consumers, large, medium and small businesses, and First Nations.

What we are asking:

We are asking the Manitoba Public Utilities Board to reject Manitoba Hydro’s application for a 7.9% rate increase effective April 1, 2018.

We are also asking the Manitoba Public Utilities Board to direct Manitoba Hydro to seek input from Manitoba ratepayers, including residential consumers, businesses (small, medium and large) and First Nations, before filing its next rate application.

Manitoba Hydro should be directed to meaningfully seek input from consumers (for example through workshops, town halls, surveys) on the level and timing of rate increases and alternatives to rate increases before the corporation finalizes its plans.

Manitoba Hydro should be directed to report back to Manitobans on feedback received from ratepayers, including how the feedback is being incorporated into its application to the PUB, or why it is not possible to incorporate.
