Digital and Social Media Coordinator Contract

MEJC is hiring a summer Digital and Social Media Coordinator!

Role Overview

The primary responsibility of the Digital Coordinator is to manage our social media, develop our digital organizing tools such as the Nationbuilder Database, and to engage and grow the energy justice community through our online presence. Digital Media is a storytelling device, framing relevant campaigns and issues through the lens of energy justice. Our online presence is how we stay in regular contact with our volunteers and supporters and mobilize for online actions such as petitions. The Digital Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Team.

Specific roles and responsibilities:

  • Aggregate content for social media, in conversation with the larger MEJC team, and coordinate and create postings
  • Post regularly on all MEJC social media platforms, building the organization’s connections online and identifying allies’ events to promote
  • Establish targets for growing MEJC’s online following at the beginning of the contract, and monitor and report on social media performance throughout contract duration
  • Attend community events as available and necessary to fulfill social media duties
  • Coordinate and support media monitoring volunteers and the distribution of relevant information and articles on social media
  • Support maintenance of Nationbuilder Database and data entry parties
  • Coordinate the and send regular newsletters (every second week) and special e-blasts (periodically, usually ahead of a big event) through our Nationbuilder system
  • Update MEJC website regularly with event pages and calendar updates. Contribute to the production of blog posts as required.
  • Support digital tool trainings as needed
  • Support monitoring of MEJC email
  • Make recommendations for improvement of social media strategy based on best practices and organization’s online analytics

 

Training and experience required

  • Fluency in using various social media platforms; Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter being the most important for MEJC
  • Proficient knowledge of and skills in social media platforms
  • Experience managing organization or group social media accounts preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, participate in democratic decision-making, and take direction from supervisor and the larger community
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, driven, and organized with good time management skills
  • Passion for social and environmental justice and experience volunteering or working in a related field
  • Experience with nationbuilder or similar databases an asset
  • Knowledge of internal communications and tasks platforms (e.g. Slack, Trello, Google Drive) an asset

Time and wages

All three positions involve 30hrs/week for 8 weeks at $15/hour. The majority of the work is flexible and can be done on the coordinator’s own time. The coordinator will be required to attend an initial meeting with the core team, and then regular meetings and phone check-ins with their direct supervisor as scheduled.

While MEJC is operated primarily by volunteers, we believe these paid positions will allow people who are not able to volunteer their time to get involved and to support our volunteer base.
