The Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition, in partnership with Organize BC, is hosting a weekend-long organizer training at the end of April. The goal of this training is to help the environmental and pipeline justice organizers to set a clear strategy and structure that will guide our work for coming months and years.
Who: People active within Manitoba’s energy and climate justice movement; those looking to get more involved and those ready to take on leadership roles
What/Why: A two-day leadership development and strategic planning training that will help chart a course for our anti pipeline/pro-energy justice work. We hope the training will make our movement stronger and more effective than ever
Where: TBD
When:
May 12: An informal evening where we will get to know each other, review the agenda and eat together
May 13: All-Day Training - Training and strategic planning
may 14: All Day Training - Training and strategic planning
Capacity is Limited. Please RSVP below. DEADLINE: April 14th
Priority will be given to people who are committed to working within or alongside MEJC as part of a coalition as allied water protectors, solution seekers or Indigenous Sovereignty activists who are working on fossil fuels. Our goal is to recruit & train 20-30 organizers who will work together to scale up our fight against pipelines and promoting energy justice.
This is not an MEJC-exclusive event.
MEJC is entering a new phase and we are working hard to become a coalition-builder within the Manitoba’s environmental movement. Our goal is to bring people and organizations together and support our shared objectives with resources, expertise, and online tools. For us, that all starts at the training. Here we will be able to assess the goals and strengths of different organizations and stakeholders so we can develop an efficient and effective approach to #keepitintheground.
About Organize BC:
Organize BC began in 2013 out of a desire to help people be better organizers across the province. Collaboration, across projects, organizations and regions, has been one of Organize BC's core values since the beginning. We pool the progressive movement’s most valuable resources, our people's skills and knowledge, to deliver ‘engagement organizing’ trainings to people throughout BC and across Canada.
In its first two years, Organize BC has developed organizing capacity in hundreds of organizers at dozens of training events, from small evening workshops to full weekend trainings, in communities from Burns Lake to Vancouver to Courtenay. We train organizers from national and provincial scale NGOs, and from small scrappy community groups. We train high school students and retirees, environmentalists and health campaigners, volunteers and professional organizers.
